During a passage through the Oleiros region, I stopped at the Miradouro do Zebro, a viewpoint designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira and set on the rocky edge of Serra do Muradal. The circular concrete platform projects out over the valley, creating a place where architecture is reduced to a simple gesture between the road, the rock and the vast landscape.

I had my Fujifilm with me and made a small series of photographs while walking around the structure. Rather than trying to document the project completely, I was interested in the relationship between the exposed concrete, the curved geometry, the surrounding rock and the changing views across the valley. The simplicity of the intervention makes the landscape itself part of the architecture.

It was a short stop, but exactly the kind of place that makes me take the camera out: an unexpected encounter along the way, where architecture, light and territory come together naturally. The photographs became a personal record of that moment and of the way I experienced Siza Vieira’s viewpoint through the camera.

Durante uma passagem pela região de Oleiros, parei no Miradouro do Zebro, um miradouro projetado por Álvaro Siza Vieira e implantado sobre a encosta rochosa da Serra do Muradal. A plataforma circular em betão avança sobre o vale, criando um lugar onde a arquitetura se resume a um gesto simples entre a estrada, a rocha e a vastidão da paisagem.

Levava comigo a minha Fujifilm e aproveitei a paragem para fazer uma pequena série de fotografias. Mais do que tentar documentar o projeto de forma exaustiva, interessou-me a relação entre o betão aparente, a geometria curva, a rocha envolvente e as diferentes vistas sobre o vale. A simplicidade da intervenção faz com que a própria paisagem passe a fazer parte da arquitetura.

Foi uma passagem breve, mas exatamente o tipo de lugar que me faz tirar a câmara da mala: um encontro inesperado pelo caminho, onde arquitetura, luz e território se relacionam de forma natural. As fotografias ficaram como um registo pessoal desse momento e da forma como observei o miradouro de Siza Vieira através da câmara.
