I spent three days in Berlin, exploring the city at a leisurely pace and photographing its streets, architecture, people and everyday life. Even before arriving, I had decided to photograph the city entirely in black and white. It felt like a natural way to portray a place where history, architecture and contemporary life are constantly intertwined.

Berlin is a city of contrasts. Traces of war, division and reconstruction coexist with modern architecture and a creative, multicultural atmosphere. Walking through its streets, I was particularly drawn to the geometry of the buildings, the large urban spaces, the light and shadows, and the small human moments happening within them.

These photographs are not intended as a complete portrait of Berlin, but rather as a personal visual record of the city through three days of observation.

My visit to Berlin would eventually become the starting point for a bicycle journey back to Portugal, but during those days, the city itself — and photographing it — was the experience.

Passei três dias em Berlim, percorrendo a cidade sem pressa e fotografando ruas, arquitetura, pessoas e situações do quotidiano. Desde o início decidi fotografá-la a preto e branco, uma linguagem que me pareceu natural numa cidade onde história, arquitetura e vida contemporânea se cruzam constantemente.

As imagens não pretendem ser um retrato completo de Berlim, mas um registo pessoal desses dias de observação, antes de a cidade se tornar o ponto de partida da minha viagem de bicicleta de regresso a Portugal.
